How Acupuncture Works

Acupuncture restores proper communication between the brain and the diseased body part while also improving blood flow to the affected area simultaneously. Acupuncture also signals the brain to release endorphins, which are your body’s natural pain killers. This process causes the blood vessels to dilate allowing blood to flow into the targeted area.

If there is an obstruction of blood flow to any area of the body, that area will malfunction. This is the root cause of pain and disease. The body cannot heal without proper blood flow because the healing components in the body live in and travel through the blood.

Distal Acupuncture

At Vitality Acupuncture & Natural Medicine, we specialize in a specific style of acupuncture called Distal Acupuncture. The advantage of using this method of acupuncture is that we generally do not insert needles directly into the area where our patients are experiencing pain/symptoms, which can potentially exacerbate the problem. We primarily insert needles in our patients from their elbows to fingers and knees to toes.

The Distal Acupuncture method often alleviates pain within a few seconds after the needles are inserted. Longer lasting results are commonly achieved over a planned series of acupuncture treatments.

How We Got Here

Historical references to the systems of acupuncture trace back thousands of years. Going back centuries it has been one of the top therapies consistently used in China. The practice later spread to several other countries and has now even been adopted by many European and American physicians. Because of how effective acupuncture is, it is not uncommon to find acupuncture now being used in many hospitals and medical offices throughout the world.
